Vista Rock: C79
Within the entire landscape of
Central Park, Vista Rock can claim
the distinction of being one of highest
natural elevations. Created hundreds of
millions of years ago, this colossal
outcropping of schist draws thousands
of visitors to its location yearly for the
great view north overlooking Turtle Pond
and the Great Lawn. Perched at its crest
is Belvedere Castle and from its second tier
this elevation makes it higher then that of
Summit Rock.
The large wooden loggia north of the
Castle provides a magnificent view from
the Rock’s edge. It allows visitors to look
down below from the great height of the
Rock at the stunning aerial panorama of
the landscape below them.
Vista Rock encompasses the steep slope
of Shakespeare Garden and the northern
edge of the Ramble.
