Originally intended as a turnaround
for carriages and a watering place for
horses the crest of the hill also provided
visitors to Central Park the contemplative
space so admired today. Carriages
still turn into the fountain setting
to provide their patrons with a
wonderful view of the Lake, but the
fountain no longer provides water
for thirsty animals.
Named for the cherry trees that
grace the landscape in the spring
the hill gently slopes downward as
it merges with the southern
shoreline of the Lake.
Many visitors find the spring blooming
forsythia and azaleas particularly
appealing. Visitors also enjoy
Cherry Hill for its serene environment
and great view of the Lake.
