110th Street Arch: W110

Architectural Highlights
Dimensions:
Length - 102 feet: Height - 48 feet.
Archway: Height - 16 feet: Width - 21 feet.
Revetment (surface):
Gneiss in rockface ashlar
arrangement.
Archway:
Tuscan with voussoirs (wedged shaped
blocks forming the arch) creating a shape that is
elliptical on top and round at the bottom.

Located just a few feet from the 110th Street
entrance off Frederick Douglass Circle at
Central Park West stands the massive structure
of the 110th Street Arch.
This arch was built to provide n ecessary access to
the West Drive in the newly populated northwest
quadrant of the Park.
Many tall trees surround this arch along with two
nearby stairways that descend down toward the
arch’s underpass.
